Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. Rather than focusing only on talking through the past, EMDR helps the brain reprocess stuck or overwhelming memories so they no longer trigger intense emotional or physical reactions.

During EMDR, your therapist guides you to briefly recall specific memories while using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or gentle tapping). This process supports the brain’s natural ability to heal, allowing memories to be stored in a way that feels less distressing and more manageable.

EMDR is widely used to treat PTSD, anxiety, panic, grief, and other trauma-related concerns. It is recognized and recommended by major organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Psychiatric Association (APA). Stephanie has completed EMDR Training 1 & 2 as well as Attachment-Focused EMDR. Her goal is to become a certified EMDR therapist.

Brainspotting

According to Brainspotting Canada, "Brainspotting Therapy™ (BSP) is a therapeutic process that uses specific points in the client’s visual field to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. BSP uses relevant eye positions, somatic awareness, focused mindfulness and the therapist’s attunement to process and release the stored traumas which underlie a wide range of emotional and physical problems. It is a brain-body based treatment which integrates well with other types of therapies."

With the support of a trained therapist, clients gently focus on a brainspot while staying present and grounded. This allows the brain’s natural healing processes to activate, often leading to meaningful shifts without needing to talk through every detail of the experience.

Brainspotting can be helpful for trauma, anxiety, chronic stress, grief, performance blocks, and somatic symptoms. Many clients find it especially effective when talk therapy hasn’t fully reached what feels stuck. Stephanie has completed Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 4 Brainspotting Training.
